Okay, diese Woche schreibe ich wieder etwas auf Englisch. Allerdings habe ich beschlossen einfach zwei Posts in einen zu Packen. Zum einen, weil ich denke, dass mein Blog nach wie vor auf Deutsch sein sollte, und zum anderen will ich einfach auch mal keinen englischen Post schreiben.
Mich beschäftigt immer noch die Tatsache, dass ich hier bin sehr, klar, ist ja auch ne krasse Veränderung. Aber irgendwie soll das ja kein Auswanderungsblog werden. Hm. Und ein bisschen mehr Quatsch würde diesem Blog gut tun. Deshalb gibt es einfach zwei Videos als deutschen Post. Früher™ hatte ich ja auch immer mal ein Video hier. Also auf geht’s. Das erste ist einfach ein Crosspost von Corinnas Instagram von mir in einem Tomatenkostüm. Das zweite ist ein Video aus dem wunderschönen Century Ballroom in Seattle, den Corinna und ich zufällig entdeckt haven und das Dritte ist der Trailer zum neuen Teil einer der besten Videospielereihen aller Zeiten.
This week, I have only another, rather quick observation about the U.S. on my list. In contrast to the United Kingdom, the English language is rather obsessed with hygiene. People will go to great lengths to not use foul language. And by foul, I don’t mean swearwords, but words that are associated with byproducts of the human body. Oh, I did the whole thing just myself. I avoided the word urine. Oh and faeces. Even these two pretty technical, neutral terms are avoided by most Americans.
Another example is the word “period”. Which is even worse as it has two taboo words associated to it: a) it’s something “dirty” b) female sexuality (which is actually part of human biology and I’m not really talking about sex at all). And let’s just not get into talking about how Americans avoid talking about sex at all.
It’s just one of the very, very weird things over here and I just don’t buy the whole “founded by puritans”-story.
